He didn't think there was enough volume on the last low but that it was a tradable low. He's not convinced about the new real estate boom either. Detroit is just the tip of iceberg. Ned W. Schmidt joined us for a review of gold and silver. He's convinced that the precious metals markets have bottomed. In addition, he believes that the gold miners have bottomed as well and that their performance will be helped by the extremely generous write-off's they have recently taken. This will help to turbo-charge their earnings once metal prices being their ascent. Ned's not expecting parabolic price metal price rises but thinks that gold could be in the $1400-1500 range by year end. Which would be perfectly acceptable.

Trying to rebuild Detroit is just not going to work. Detroit needs to do things differently than any other city. This means abolishing the failing school system. It means contracting out the police department. It means redifining the core functions of what a city does. If Kevyn Orr simply goes about trying to recapture the good old days, he will simply add another chapter to what Detroit has been all about for the past 50 years, failure. Hopefully he'll see the light and realize that the old ways stopped working long ago and that it's time to try something new.

Gary Gibson joined us today. He's very bullish on Detroit. The reason is quite simple. As the City of Detroit has crumbled, so has its enforcement mechanism. This means there's a shortage of government bureaucrats walking around telling you what you're not allowed to do. Therefore, economic prospects are looking up. When government fails, business looks to fill the void and that's exactly what's happening in Detroit. Everything from policing to transportation and other services are being provided for by the free market at a profit.

Long term bullion dealer Barry Stuppler believes that today was a big one for the precious metals markets. Simultaneously passing through $1300 for gold and $20 for silver is significant. It should have the effect of shaking the shorts out and preparing the way for the next rally through $1400 and perhaps $1500 as well. The Asians have stepped up their buying and we're even seeing buying out of Japan. At the same time, producition is declining. Newmont, Barrick and many other producers have cut back their production, which will lead to shortages. This could be an exciting time for precious metals.

Ranting Andy Hoffman joined us for his Monday rant. As explained, the JP Morgan vault fire turned out to be untrue. Right street, wrong building. But if JP Morgan's shares of GLD and SLV held in their vault for safe keeping haven't yet gone up in smoke, it's only a matter of time. World events and the collapsing US economy are conspiring to drive the price of gold and silver higher. No amount of manipulation and gamesmanship can stop it from happening. Real estate's not looking so wonderful now either, but lets see what happens.

According to Kate Tulenko, MD, immigrants used to take lower paying jobs that Americans wouldn't work at. Now that's changed. Immigrants, especially under the proposed law, will be getting more higher paying high tech jobs and more health care positions. The US isn't investing in higher paying jobs for Americans. Under the perverse incentives in place, non-Americans will be getting first dibs on these much sought after jobs. Entirely unfair and un-American.
