Last week was a busy one. One interview that stands out is my talk with Ellen Shaffer. She's hooked up with a San Francisco Bay Area think tank. When you hear those words, you know that collectivist thought is never too far behind. She's outraged by the possiblity of cuts in Social Security. However, she doesn't believe that it contributes to the deficit and she won't even admit that deficits are potentially fatal to an economy or a society. Her comrade in arms Paul B. Farrell goes even further to claim that the free market is causing our moral decline. Somehow he believes that crony capitalism is a function of free markets. Perhaps he needs to crack the Economy 101 text book and find out what capitalism is really all about.
