Lowell Ponte believes that American exceptionalism is genetically based. There's a reason that only 2 percent of the populaton ever picks and leaves in search of a better life. In the past that two percent found its way to America. The question is whether that two percent will stay and fight to keep America the land of opportunity or whether they will simply leave and go elsewhere. The way things look now, the fight will soon be over and a new land of opportunity will emerge for those 2 percent. The question is where it will be. Lowell is uncertain as are we.

Danielle Park joined us for our bi-weekly get together. We talked about how most people will never be able to retire at age 65. At least not a conventional retirement like our parents and grandparents got to enjoy. Rather we will need to look to increase our incomes, drastically cut our expenses and seek other means to achieve our goals. Public retirement systems will need to be reformed as well. Unfortunately the wake up call has yet to be heard by too many. But that will change soon.

Former Congressman John LeBoutillier is a keen watcher of the political scene. He believes that Bridgegate will be Chris Christie's Waterloo. While Republicans flounder and never really pursue Democrats for their wrongdoing, no matter how grave, Democrats don't suffer from that problem. John believes that Christie's inner circle will be granted immunity and that they will spill the beans. This will eliminate the main Republican Presidential candidate for 2016 and thus pave the way for Hillary Clinton to become President. Time will tell if John's predictions will come true.

Dave Bego, who took on the unions and cleaned clock, thinks the upcoming Supreme Court decision covering the President's recess appointment pwers could have a major implications. This will deal specifically with the NLRB (National Labor Relations Board) and the newly formed Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The NLRB made numerous rules and regulations as well as hundreds of decisions. If the Supremes rule against the President, all of that work could be ruled null and void, requiring the the Board to relitigate and reissue all of the affected rules and regulations. That would be an enormous undertaking that might not be worth the effort for many of the cases and rules involved. Stay tuned!
